Red Sox Nation

There are a certain number of ballparks in the country that are deemed "sacred" by local residents. Fenway is one of them. People here are crazy about the Red Sox, and this whole region of the country is often termed "Red Sox Nation." Tickets are nearly impossible to get [esp. at face value], and people brave the snow, sleet and rain to get tickets and watch their beloved Red Sox. And it doesn't hurt now that they're really good! With the Celtics in the Eastern Conference Playoffs, the Red Sox at the top of their division and the Patriots almost undefeated last season, this city is going nuts over all sports! And of course, we have to mention the Bruins lest someone yell at us. The Bruins aren't in the Stanley Cup this year, but given that its really cold here, they're probably a pretty decent team as well :-0.

After hearing so much about Fenway, we decided to see what all the hype was about. So Jimmy surprised Lisa with tickets to see them in action. Funny enough, Jimmy grabbed Lisa's North Face jacket on the way out, which we have started to call the "Green Monster" because it is a truly monstrous shade of green [see above for confirmation]. Well, as some of you know, the Green Monster is also what locals call the left back wall of Fenway Park. Since the Green Monster is taller than most other ball parks, the Green Monster is notorious for defecting what would otherwise be home runs!

Anyhow, the game was an "experience" and we got to:

1) Do the wave, 3 times in a row
2) Sing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" during the 7th stretch
3) Stretch during the 7th stretch
4) Sing Sweet Caroline
5) Eat 2 sausage hotdogs & a pretzel for $16
6) Watch the Sox beat the KC Royals 2-1.

Everyone was super duper nice! Evidence: the seats are very small, which makes it kind of annoying when people have to enter and exit the row. But each time a person got up for a restroom break or beer run, the whole row would chat with the person walking by, shake their hand, etc. Pretty cool, eh?

Not sure if we'll go again, but its definitely something you want to experience if you live and/or visit Beantown!
